Prime Minister Janez Janša presents Energy Globe Award to Mikhail Gorbachev

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia and President of the European Council, Mr Janez Janša, this evening took part in the Global Energy Awards ceremony held in the European Parliament. On this occasion, he presented former President of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev with the honorary Energy Globe Award for life-time achievement.

In his address, the Slovenian Prime Minister and President of the European Council said that Mikhail Gorbachev was a man who had made a major contribution to the positive changes in Europe. He had indeed been at the forefront when the opposition between capitalism and communism slowly lost its full force. Today, as Chairman of Green Cross International, an organisation fighting for ‘ecological perestroika’, Mr Gorbachev has set fine examples by promoting new values, new ways of thinking about the future, and a new philosophy of responsibility. “We are all travellers aboard the ship named Earth and we must not allow it to be destroyed. There will be no second Noah’s Ark,” as the Premier pointed out, citing Mr Gorbachev’s own words,  when presenting the award.
