Prime Minister Janez Janša at the French National Day Ceremony in Paris

Prime Minister Janez Janša, together with his fiancée Urška Bačovnik, attended the traditional military parade on the Champs-Elysées in Paris, held every year to mark the French National Day.  The ceremony was also attended by more than 35 heads of state and government from the European Union and the Mediterranean, who took the Barcelona Process to a higher level by officially launching the Union for the Mediterranean in the French capital on Sunday.

The celebration began with French Alpha Jet aeroplanes flying over the crowd, leaving a trail of the French tricolour stripes across the clear sky. The parade was led by a contingent of 300 members of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force from 25 countries and came to an end when six skydivers with the flags of France, the European Union and the UN landed just in front of the VIP stand on the Place de la Concorde.
