After meeting the distinguished guest, the Prime Minister, Janez Janša, expressed his satisfaction that the visit took place this year, since the invitation to visit has been extended since almost one decade. »Last year when I had a meeting with her she promised that she would visit Slovenia in 2008 but not later than in 2009. I am delighted that she fulfilled her promise this year and that, in a way, her visit coincides with the successful Slovenia’s EU Council Presidency.”

The core theme of their discussion was the current developments in Slovenia and in the European Union, since Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II has a good knowledge of the European and world politics.  Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II who, according to the Prime Minister, keeps pace in detail with the developments in the European Union, took the opportunity to commend Slovenia on its Presidency of the 27 EU Member States this year. The Slovenian Presidency was already discussed on the occasion of the formal visit of the Prime Minister to London in November 2007.

»We also discussed the situation in the region where Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II showed, thanks also to her co-workers who held offices in the Western Balkans in the last months, extremely good knowledge of issues and the progress achieved during the Slovenian Presidency in the Western Balkans", added Prime Minister Janša. Further, their talks focused on the current situation in Europe giving special emphasis on the ideas of the Great Britain in solving the world financial crisis.
