At the press conference following the Government's 168th regular session, the Slovenian Prime Minister, Borut Pahor, emphasised that in view of the failure to appoint a new prime minister designate, the current Government was obliged to assess which measures to adopt in order to protect the national interest. Therefore, they prepared six draft laws which would be sent to the National Assembly; it is then up to this representative body to decide whether or not it will discuss them. In this context, the Government prepared amendments to the following: the Public Finance Act; the Mortgage Bond and Municipal Bond Act; the Energy Act; the Takeovers Act; the Financial Operations, Insolvency Proceedings and Compulsory Dissolution Act; and the Development Planning Act.

Mr Pahor explained that "these are acts which, in our opinion, need to be adopted as a matter of urgency in view of the situation in the area of finance, economy and social affairs". However, the National Assembly is free to either consider these documents or decide not to discuss them until the formation of a new government. Regarding the support for the aforementioned legislative proposals, Prime Minister Pahor announced that he would discuss them next week during his talks with the presidents of all the parliamentary parties. Mr Pahor called for support by saying that "although only performing regular duties, the Government I lead believes it would be beneficial to the national interest if this six-act package were adopted". He went on to explain that the proposed legislative package ensures the introduction of more effective mechanisms for fiscal consolidation, improving the economic environment and harmonising the operation of the energy market with EU rules. Moreover, Mr Pahor emphasised that the Slovenian Government is concerned about the international situation, the gravity of which further exacerbates the situation in the domestic environment.  "Forecasts for economic growth in the euro area are not favourable", said Prime Minister Pahor who added that we must do everything in our power to prevent the situation from further deteriorating in view of the current political instability.
