In his statement after the meeting, Prime Minister Pahor commented that he would take their positions into consideration and pointed out that at present there is no consensus between employers and trade unions in the European Union in respect of  regulation of working time at EU level.  However, the Slovenian Prime Minister is convinced that in the absence of consensus between social partners every effort should be made to continue the dialogue until a compromise is achieved.  This issue will also be discussed during the forthcoming visit by the new Slovenian Prime Minister to the European Commission in Brussels.

In the opinion of Mr Pahor, the European Union has enough time to reconsider the need for adopting the Directive at a time when employers are even shortening working time due to the present crisis. The Government of the Republic of Slovenia will endeavour to find a compromise solution until economic growth recovers. The Slovenian Prime Minister added that Slovenia would be conducting strengthened social dialogue during the whole period of economic uncertainty. He also expects the social partners to present memorandums expressing their expectations on measures to be taken by the Government in these challenging economic times.
