The Government also established the National Security Council chaired by Prime Minister Pahor and composed of the ministers of defence, the interior, foreign affairs, finance and justice, the Government's Secretary-General and the Director of the Slovenian Intelligence and Security Agency. The Council chair will invite the President of the Republic, the President of the National Assembly, the president of the largest opposition party, chairpersons of other state bodies and representatives of other organisations to its sessions when national security issues requiring concerted action are to be discussed.

In the context of information about the international financial crisis and its potential impacts on Slovenia, Prime Minister Pahor added that the Government had appointed a special coordination group led by the Minister for Growth and European Affairs, Mr Mitja Gaspari. Members of this group are the Minister of the Economy, Dr Matej Lahovnik; Minister of Finance, Dr Franc Križanič; Minister of Labour, Family and Social Affairs, Dr Ivan Svetlik; and Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Mr Gregor Golobič.

The Government requested that all ministries and government services examine and propose measures to the Government as soon as possible for the prevention and elimination of the consequences of the international financial crisis, said the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister gave his assurances that the Government would continue with its practice of field visits and plan to visit one region monthly, and, whenever possible, organise thematic sessions.
