Prime Minister Pahor meets the representatives of trade unions

“I believe that today's consultation was very successful,” noted the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, after meeting the representatives of trade unions. By way of introduction, Prime Minister Pahor expressed his personal opinion that, in view of the crisis, there was no justification for managers of companies whose majority owner is the state to be paid bonuses. “Given the current situation, this would be scandalous and would render social dialogue impossible,” stressed the Prime Minister.

This consultation with the representatives of trade unions was the Government's second meeting with groups to participate in social dialogue. Mr Pahor would like trade union representatives to present as soon as possible their key positions on measures they expect the Government to adopt. “It is important to bear in mind an exhaustive list of positions when the first packages of measures to ameliorate the situation are prepared, and they must be submitted to the Economic and Social Council for discussion.” Mr Pahor asserted that he expected a memorandum in due course and that the Development Dialogue is closely linked to time, which “is our greatest enemy”.

The Prime Minister also added that he did not expect a full consensus on potential measures but that he did expect the Economic and Social Council to reach an agreement at least on the general direction of measures.
