Prime Minister accepts honorary presidency of the Planica Organising Committee

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, has accepted the honorary presidency of the Planica Organising Committee. The greatest Slovenian sports event and one of Slovenia's most visible trade marks in the world will be hosted again by the FIS World Cup Ski Jumping Final between 19 and 22 March 2009.   This will give Planica a new impetus for the construction of the Nordic Centre which will enable further development of this noble sport on skis. Planica will also see an important milestone in 2010 when it hosts the world championship in ski flying.

“Planica is synonymous with sports at home and worldwide. The best ski-jumping champions in the world who push the envelope of the possible in Planica, are worthy of our admiration. I am convinced that all those involved in organising the country’s most significant sports event can prepare everything necessary in the coming years for an unforgettable experience for competitors and visitors, and the more than 160 million television spectators around the world. With its rich tradition, Planica has hosted generations of sportsmen who surpassed the magical limit of 200 metres.  We must join our forces and help the coming generations reach beyond 300 in the place where it all started – Planica,” said Prime Minister Pahor on this occasion.
