Prime Minister at Press Conference

At today's press conference following the Government session, Prime Minister Borut Pahor presented the draft law on partial subsidisation of full working time by way of which the Government of the Republic of Slovenia intends to help companies that have been most affected by the global financial and economic crisis and that have experienced a serious decline in orders. The Prime Minister also presented the decision of the ministerial crisis group to require the Ministry of Finance to draft rules on the basis of which payment periods applying to the State will be shortened, since the latter will have to settle its liabilities under the new legislation within a maximum period of 30 days.

"The Government also settled on a restrictive human resources policy in the public sector in 2009," stressed Prime Minister Pahor, adding that in the future the wages of ministers and state secretaries will be reduced. "The Government decided to transfer the ministers from salary grade 64 to salary grade 63, and state secretaries from salary grade 61 to salary grade 60. The Government also took the decision to freeze the salaries of directors in the public sector, which means that in 2009 their salaries will not rise by 0.5% as originally planned."

Prime Minister Pahor also introduced the members of the Staff Accreditation Council (SAC), who were appointed today by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia. As he explained, this Council will act as a consulting body for proposals by the ministerial group for members of supervisory and management boards of companies in majority state ownership.  The Government decided to establish the Staff Accreditation Council in order to appoint the "best of the best" to the supervisory and management boards of companies, whereby political affinity will not be one of the criteria, added the Prime Minister.
