New Year's Message from the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia

Dear Slovenians,

Dear citizens,

The year ahead of us will be a demanding one, and the Government bears the brunt of the responsibility for making it successful. We have sufficient historical experience, knowledge and political wisdom to use the crisis as an opportunity for a new development impetus. In this venture we will have to rely considerably on our own ingenuity. Therefore, we shall together create a social climate which enables a vivid exchange of different solutions and a selection of the best, regardless of who proposed them.

In the situation we are in, we need each other. Hence we should show each other respect and trust. The coming year will not be marked solely by the restructuring of the economy but the entire society as well. Irrespective of any political or other differences between us, we stand united in the belief that Slovenia can be a more developed society if at the same time we also enhance our solidarity. In the coming year, these joint aspirations will be put to the test.

I believe in dialogue and wise compromises leading to progress. In all aspects, we will have to embrace different opinions and be capable of choosing the best, while also being prudent and resolute.  When we wish each other a happy new year, we should not rely on luck too much. Instead we should rely on our own abilities and on each other. Let us show all our talent and all our courage. If we do so, then a touch of good luck is all we need to succeed. Fortune favours the brave.

Best wishes for the New Year!

Borut Pahor

Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia
