Prime Minister addresses Managers’ Association of Slovenia

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, addressed the January meeting this evening of the Managers’ Association of Slovenia,  pointing out to the audience that representatives of both the corporate sector and the political sector must respond to the high expectations of the people. "These expectations mean overcoming the crisis with a view to becoming even more successful and continuing on the path toward the circle of the most developed nations, where everyone bears one's own responsibility," said the Prime Minister.

In addition, Mr Pahor underlined the issue of restoring citizens' trust, which seems to be crucial in these times of economic and financial uncertainty when measures to ease the burden of the economic sector are being adopted.   "If the Government is successful in strengthening this trust, the political sphere can do the job in 2009 as the crucial year," added the Prime Minister.

The Government, with a view to seeking solutions for enhancing its economic competitiveness in parallel with consolidating its social security system, launched the so-called Development Dialogue campaign, within which it intends to meet with various interest groups of Slovenian society. "Only together can we find answers to all questions," continued the Prime Minister and stressed that the present crisis ought to be considered as an opportunity that Slovenia should not overlook.

In Mr Pahor's words, in the next ten years the Government sees Slovenia among the most developed countries in the world, more competitive and showing more solidarity with others. "At the beginning of 2009, this seems to be a big dream.   However, not only are Slovenians allowed to dream, but such dreams are also essential for our lives. As a small nation, we can only be successful if we have a dream that we can follow," concluded the Prime Minister.
