Prime Minister Pahor and Foreign Minister Jeremić for a new chapter in bilateral relations

The Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, today received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, Vuk Jeremić, who is currently on a working visit to Slovenia. Their talks focused on bilateral cooperation between Slovenia and Serbia, as well as Serbia’s integration into European structures.

The Slovenian Prime Minster supported the strengthening of bilateral relations between Slovenia and Serbia, especially economic cooperation. Mr Pahor and Mr Jeremić shared the view that, alongside the significant presence of the Slovenian companies on the Serbian market, the time has come to open a new chapter in mutual relations. They also undertook to build on areas where the two countries hold similar views. On this occasion Mr Jeremić conveyed the invitation of the Serbian President, Boris Tadić, to Mr Pahor to visit Belgrade. Mr Pahor said he hoped this visit would take place as soon as possible and that a strong delegation of Slovenian businessmen would accompany him.

In light of today’s visit of the Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn to Ljubljana, Mr Pahor and Mr Jeremić exchanged views on the enlargement of the European Union. According to Mr Jeremić, membership of the European Union is Serbia’s strategic priority. He presented the Serbian proposal to launch the ratification process of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement in the European Union. It is also in the interest of Slovenia that Serbia becomes a member of the European structures as soon as possible, said Mr Pahor, offering Slovenia’s support to Serbia in this respect.
