Prime Minister Borut Pahor attends “Businessman of the Primorska Region” event

Today in Nova Gorica, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, attended the event “Businessman of the Primorska Region”, organised by Radio Koper and Primorske novice, and presented the 2008 Primorska Region’s Businessman of the Year Award to the director of the manufacturing company Javor Stroji, Rudi Tomšič.

At the event, Mr Pahor spoke about the global economic and financial crisis, action taken by the Government to tackle uncertainty caused by the current economic situation in Slovenia, and the economic forecasts for the future.  He pointed out that the global financial crisis had already spilled over into the real economy and was becoming a social crisis, but that it was important to remain optimistic in facing these challenging circumstances. He said that by adopting two packages of measures aimed at addressing the present financial and economic uncertainty the Government had taken steps in the right direction. He further noted that the Government was also considering a third package of measures aimed at helping individual companies.

At today’s event, Mr Pahor touched on issues pertaining to the Primorska region. He highlighted the urgent need to modernise the railway network – a project for which Slovenia is seeking a strategic partner.  This will also be the subject of a discussion between Prime Minister Borut Pahor and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Tuesday.
