He was received with military honours by German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Their talks focused on further enhancing bilateral relations and on co-operation between the two countries. Mr Pahor and Mrs Merkel also exchanged views on mitigating the negative effects of the crisis, agreeing that the concerted action of EU Member States is vital to tackling the economic and financial crisis. In this regard, Chancellor Merkel said that Europe’s view on this issue was much more harmonised than it appeared on the surface. Taking account of economic links between the two countries, Mr Pahor and Mrs Merkel agreed on further cooperation between the two countries, at the professional and ministerial level, with respect to preparation of measures to tackle the economic and financial crisis. They also discussed the forthcoming meeting of transport ministers and a possible attempt to draw up a strategic plan to modernise railway infrastructure. At the close of the meeting, Chancellor Merkel expressed support for the settlement of the border dispute between Slovenia and Croatia by mediation.
