In the proposed amendment, budget expenditure in 2009 is increased by 17% compared with the previous year. The Government has not yet amended the investment part of the budget because it is an important strengthening factor for the Slovenian economy.  The Prime Minister further stressed that the biggest increase in funds was proposed in the field of the work force and working conditions, the economy, science and technological development, as well as education, which is an especially positive feature of the supplementary budget.

The Government has been simultaneously preparing an amendment to the budget to address a potential further decline in GDP. A third package of practical and strategic measures will be discussed at a meeting of the crisis group of ministers next week.  With respect to anti-crisis measures, Slovenia remains on the right track, added Prime Minister Pahor.

By way of conclusion Mr Pahor again emphasised the significance of social cohesion, saying it was important not to forget those individuals most affected by the crisis, while remaining hopeful that together we can find suitable solutions and overcome the crisis.
