At a press conference today, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, outlined the major resolutions and decisions adopted by the Government at its 19th regular session. Mr Pahor said that the Government has taken note of the implementation of recommendations regarding the scale of directors’ fees and attendance fees paid to supervisory board members and of salaries and bonuses of management board members in state-owned companies.

The Government has established that in some cases this has not yet been regulated appropriately, and has decided to consistently implement the aforementioned recommendations, if necessary also through general meetings of companies or amendments to documents that regulate these issues in companies. "The Government has already prepared an amendment to the Companies Act abolishing the possibility of supervisory board members participating in profits, and limited the payment of disproportionate directors’ fees to members of supervisory and management boards," said Mr Pahor.

At today’s session, the Government adopted an annual programme of measures for 2009 aimed at improving the quality of the environment in the Zgornja Mežiška valley, and took note of the report on the implementation of programmes of measures. The majority of these measures are aimed at paving gravel roads and ensuring additional healthy nutrition contributing to a reduction in the levels of lead in the body and to minimising the damaging impact of lead on children’s health.

The Government also agreed on the text of the proposed amendments to the Passports of the Citizens of the Republic of Slovenia Act, which is to be submitted to the National Assembly for discussion. The amendments to the Act provide a new legal basis for the implementation of the EU Council Regulation on standards for security features and biometrics in passports and travel documents issued by Member States. On 28 June 2009, the Republic of Slovenia will begin issuing biometric passports containing fingerprints. All old passports will remain valid until their expiry date.

At today’s press conference, the Prime Minister also confirmed that the Government had decided to provide 2 million euros to two humanitarian organisations, which have been struggling with a lack of resources to help people in need.
