“The central aim of today’s conference and development dialogue is to thrash out important development issues facing our society, to begin to build a new development consensus and to help Slovenia emerge from the crisis stronger,” began Mr Pahor. He stressed that Slovenia should be highly ambitious and take action that will help it take its place among the most developed countries in the long term.

Mr Pahor emphasised that, in addressing the challenges posed by the crisis, we should strive to frame a third development consensus. “Thanks to the first development consensus, Slovenia achieved statehood; thanks to the second, it joined the European Union; the third will enable it to take its place among the most developed countries in the world,” he said. In his opening words, Mr Pahor reiterated that commitment to development dialogue remains one of the Government’s guiding principles in addressing the crisis, and that all measures and plans to overcome the effects of the crisis and ensure continued development would be discussed with social partners.

Participants at the conference also exchanged views on the Government’s measures to tackle the financial and economic crisis, and took note of new draft measures to combat the crisis. At the close of discussion, Mr Pahor said with confidence that he is convinced forums of this kind constitute an essential development practice.
