Prime Minister’s press conference

At a press conference today, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, outlined the major resolutions and decisions adopted by the Government at its 21st regular session. He opened by saying that the earthquake in Italy was one subject of today’s discussion between himself and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. The two prime ministers discussed the assistance the Slovenian side could offer to Italy, agreeing that in the days to come Slovenia will examine the possibilities for opening an account into which money can be remitted to help those affected by the earthquake.

At today’s session, the Government took note of the bonus paid to the former President of the Management Board of NLB, Marjan Kramar, and decided to use, as the legal representative of the majority owner, all legal means available to secure the return of the bonus and to call members of the Supervisory Board of NLB to account for the payment of a bonus of this size. The Government asked the competent authorities (the State Attorney’s Office, the Ministry of Finance and other competent authorities) to explore by 15 April the legal possibilities for taking action on this front.

At today’s session, ministers took note of the programme of the Slovenian Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. The priorities of the Slovenian Presidency will be children’s rights, education about human rights, intercultural dialogue, and the promotion of democracy and the rule of law. Slovenia will hold the presidency of the Committee from 12 May to 18 November 2009.

It was also agreed that, should the need arise to provide additional assistance to the Red Cross and Caritas, the Government will adopt an appropriate resolution to provide assistance from the commodity reserves of the Republic of Slovenia.
