The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, today held a working consultation with representatives from environmental non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working in the areas of environmental protection and the promotion of sustainable development. Mr Pahor and the NGO representatives took the opportunity to exchange views on the climate negotiations to be held in December 2009 in Copenhagen, the implementation of the EU energy and climate package, and several urgent development decisions facing Slovenia in the light of climate change adaptation. They agreed that consultations of this kind are a constructive way to bring about practical solutions. They also decided to hold further consultations, focusing on individual, more specific subject areas.

At today’s meeting, Mr Pahor and the NGO representatives also agreed to set up an inter-ministerial climate change office, which will start to operate by the end of this year.
