Initially, Prime Minister Pahor emphasised that Slovenia had travelled a remarkable road in a relatively short period of two decades: from the federal republic of the former Yugoslavia to integration into the European Union, from the introduction of the common European currency to entry into the Schengen area and the presidency of the EU Council. "The road we have travelled evokes feelings surpassing admiration and pride. In a single generation, we have been living witnesses to incredible changes," emphasised Mr Pahor and concluded that "we celebrate Europe Day by proudly looking back at the road we have travelled and by looking at the future with self-confidence."
