Prime Minister at press conference

At a press conference today, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, outlined the major resolutions and decisions adopted by the Government at its 26th regular session.  Prime Minister Pahor opened by saying that the Government had adopted amendments to the proposal to resolve the border issue made by the European Commissioner for Enlargement, Olli Rehn, and sent them to the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia.  "It is my wish that the border issue be resolved, however not at any price.  The border must be just, and both neighbouring nations should be sure of that, which is the only way they can strengthen mutual cooperation," added the Prime Minister.

At today’s session, the Government also approved a draft act on partial wage allowances. This draft act provides for temporary layoffs, such that workers can remain with employers facing reductions in business and wishing to preserve jobs, with the Government sharing the burden. Employers will be able to temporarily layoff workers, who will be able to receive wage compensation allowances for the layoff period in the amount of 85% of the allowance basis. The employers will cover 35 percentage points of this allowance and the Government the remaining 50 percentage points. Laid-off workers have the right and obligation to attend training during the layoff period. The employers are obliged to ensure training of workers during the layoff period, while the Government intends to co-finance such training up to EUR 500 per worker.

In connection with the Falcon 2000 EX aircraft, the Government decided to rent it out under a public invitation to tender. On the basis of the foreseen possibilities and a financial analysis of rental costs and/or use of the aircraft, the working group of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia estimated that renting the aircraft is the most economical solution at present.
