At the close of the meeting, Mr Pahor gave assurances that Slovenia is making every effort towards the enlargement of the European Union in the Western Balkans and that it supports Croatia’s membership. With Croatia joining, the Western Balkan countries would have two strong advocates in the EU, he said. He went on to inform Dr Ivanov about the course of implementation of the Lisbon Treaty, which is of vital importance in the enlargement process.

Dr Ivanov thanked Slovenia for its support throughout the process of Macedonia’s integration into NATO and the EU, assuring that all potential administrative barriers to Slovene investment in Macedonia would be eliminated. He further said that Slovene companies were welcome in Macedonia and that Slovene brands were recognised as a symbol of quality.
