Today at Brdo pri Kranju, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, took part in a round-table discussion on the theme of "The situation of minorities in Slovenia and Slovenes living abroad", at which he also delivered an address. He opened by highlighting the importance of multiculturalism as a value which "makes us rich and does not threaten us." He added that "the more we try to extend this recognition, the more tolerance there will be."

Prime Minister Pahor drew attention to the considerable progress made in the area of minorities in the past 20 years in both the European Union and the Council of Europe, as well as in Slovenia and neighbouring countries. An atmosphere has been created in which members of minorities feel they can fully express their identity and strengthen their freedom, which, however, must not infringe upon the freedoms of others. Fully aware of this, Slovenia considers ensuring minorities optimum conditions for working and living its duty and obligation.
