Prime Minister’s press conference

 At a press conference today following the Government’s 37th regular session, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, again commented on current developments at the Mura company: "I entirely understand the difficult situation of workers at Mura, and we are doing everything in our power to find a solution in the form of a new strategic partner for a new Mura." He went on to add that the Government would do its utmost to take care of those who are facing uncertainty in the face of the current developments at the company.

  

At today’s session, the Government of the Republic of Slovenia took note of the issues facing Mura and adopted certain measures in the form of providing information, consultancy and funds to subsidise the re-employment of Mura workers. The Government also announced the preparation of material for an appropriate project unit to deal with the development strategy for the endangered Prekmurje region.

The ministers adopted the policy on corporate governance of state-owned enterprises which is being prepared with regard to the process of Slovenia’s accession to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The policy has been formulated with the aim of ensuring the implementation of principles, defining responsibilities and competences of individual state authorities, and implementing corporate governance of state-owned enterprises in accordance with the principles of economy, performance, efficiency and transparency.

  

The Government also adopted the proposed amendments to the Value Added Tax Act, which introduce, among other features, a reduced VAT rate of 8.5% for books on all physical means of support, window cleaning and cleaning in private households, small services of repairing bicycles, shoes, leather goods, clothing and household linen. The amendments also increase flat-rate compensation from 4% to 8%, which is calculated when purchasing goods and services from flat-rate farmers and is aimed at reducing the negative effects of the economic crisis on private agriculture.
