Prime Minister Pahor meets Croatian colleague Jadranka Kosor

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, held a meeting today with his colleague, Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor, in Trakoscan Castle in Croatia. It was the first get-acquainted meeting of the Slovenian Prime Minister with the Croatian Prime Minister since she assumed the leadership of the Croatian Government. This meeting is a continuation of bilateral talks at the level of the prime ministers held for the first time on 24 February this year in Mokrice. At today’s meeting, the Slovenian and Croatian prime ministers were accompanied by delegations from the Republic of Slovenia and the Republic of Croatia, including the Slovenian and Croatian foreign ministers.

The aim of today's meeting was to strengthen mutual understanding for resolving open issues between the two countries. At the beginning, Prime Minister Pahor stressed that "it is possible to resolve the issue of Croatia’s accession to the European Union this year and to continue the negotiations, as well as to resolve the border issue between the two countries.  We found a framework path to bring this indicative solution in line with certain other details on the basis of more intensive cooperation."  We have established that much more unites our countries than divides them. The common interest of both countries is that Croatia completes accession negotiations with the European Union and that a clear European perspective for all the countries of South Eastern Europe lies ahead. "We are both convinced that it is possible to reach a solution which will be in the national interest of both countries," added Prime Minister Pahor.

Concluding, the two prime ministers assessed that there is enough political will on both sides to resolve, with the cooperation of both foreign ministers, open issues to the mutual benefit of both countries by the end of the year. "I look to the future with optimism and hope that this cooperation in the following months will be successful," concluded Prime Minister Pahor.
