Prime Minister Pahor attends "Kogoj's Days 2009"

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, this evening attended the traditional international festival of contemporary music, "Kogoj's Days 2009", in Kanal ob Soči. Mr Pahor emphasised the importance of the festival, which has for as long as three decades been the scene of events "which have left a deep impression on the historical memory of the cultural life of this local community and, through a number of exceptional superlatives, also on the history of contemporary musical creativity and interpretation".

Mr Pahor commended the efforts of the organisers, who in spite of financial problems are preserving the awareness that "it is all the more important to show concern for culture and art, for Slovenian books and poems", and invited policy-makers "to open the doors to values which will lead us along the path of tolerance and charity, respect for our own culture and the culture of others". Concluding his address, Prime Minister Pahor emphasised that "culture is not only our identity, but also our priority, a development potential and social capital". The Prime Minister then visited the exhibition in the Riko Debenjak Gallery featuring Dr Irena Mislej and entitled "Gorica Painting Circle and Slovenian Print Media Between Both World Wars". Mr Pahor concluded his visit by attending a concert featuring the Čarnice vocal group.
