Prime Minister Pahor receives President of Egypt Hosni Mubarak

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, today received the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Hosni Mubarak, accompanied by several ministers. Prime Minister Pahor and President Mubarak agreed that relations between Slovenia and Egypt were excellent and friendly. They confirmed that economic co-operation between the two countries was good and that it could be further enhanced through increased investment, especially in the area of transport services and the food industry.

They also touched on certain international and regional issues, foremost among them the Middle East peace process and the situations in Afghanistan and Iran. They agreed that a collective approach and enlarged dialogue to pave the way for further efforts to revive the peace process were necessary to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region. Prime Minister Pahor and President Mubarak also exchanged views on the role of the European Union in the region. Mr Mubarak stressed, in particular, that security in the Middle East was closely linked to security in Europe and the Mediterranean.
