Prime Minister Pahor meets businessmen from Pomurje Region

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, along with the Minister of the Economy, Matej Lahovnik, and State Secretary Andrej Horvat, today paid a visit to Murska Sobota, where he attended a session of the management board of the Pomurje Chamber of Commerce. They devoted most of their time to a presentation of the Pomurje Development Aid Act and proposals for its improvement and amendment. At the press conference following the meeting Mr Pahor said that "the Government wishes to hear critical observations, as well as advice regarding amendments to this law."

In an open and constructive discussion, the participants of the meeting agreed that Pomurje businessmen should draft their own proposals, including amendments to this act, which the Government would then appropriately formulate for discussion. Prime Minister Pahor particularly commended the willingness of the businessmen to constructively cooperate in drafting good legislation which would help achieve the desired objectives. Mr Pahor reiterated the reason for the Government's decision to adopt a special act on Pomurje. "The Government had two options – to respond to this challenge with projects pursuant to the applicable legislation or to react by way of a special act. We selected the second option because we believe that this approach is more comprehensive, transparent and effective," pointed out the Prime Minister, adding that "although ambitious, this plan can nevertheless be implemented by 2015 and, in my opinion, provide new development impetus."

At the close of his visit to Pomurje, Mr Pahor visited the Mura Company, where he met with the management of Mura in Partnerji Co. "We have promised to do our best to ensure that the healthy core of the company, which was preserved, again becomes as large and important as it used to be, and we are working on that," said Prime Minister Pahor on the margins of the visit. The Mura management informed Mr Pahor of the company's short- and long-term plans and the problems related to new employments and workers who already work at Mura.
