In his address, Mr Pahor first expressed his satisfaction with today's visit, adding that the established friendship between the two countries is an excellent platform to further strengthen good neighbourly relations. The Slovenian Prime Minister particularly emphasised that within bilateral cooperation one may also expect good trade partnerships. Although a slight decrease in bilateral trade can particularly be attributed to the current economic and financial crisis, the improvement of political relations and the settlement of open issues left unresolved after the disintegration of the former Yugoslavia will nevertheless also bring about improvement in this area.

In his statement to the press after the economic forum Mr Pahor pointed out that Slovenia and Croatia are at a turning point which in its aftermath will show whether the two countries will maintain friendly neighbourly relations and support mutual interests, or insist only on focusing on what divides them.

Mr Pahor also highlighted the common interests of both countries in Croatia's accession to the European Union and the settlement of the border dispute. "Croatia's accession to the EU is in the interests of Slovenia and the settlement of the border dispute is in Croatia's interests. These interests are mutual and allow the opening of a completely new chapter in bilateral relations," concluded the Slovenian Prime Minister.
