Unveiling a bust of Stane Kavčič is not nostalgia for the past, but inspiration for the future, says Prime Minister Pahor

Today in National Heroes’ Square, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, attended a ceremony to unveil a bust of Stane Kavčič, at which he also delivered an address. He opened by stressing the significance of Stane Kavčič's work, not only during his political career but also at crucial moments that led up to the Slovenian political spring: "In this regard, Stane Kavčič was not only an important political figure, but also a champion of change, which later by far surpassed his aspirations for political, economic and national freedom."

Prime Minister Pahor also touched on the importance of Stane Kavčič as a political figure for the present time, highlighting Mr Kavčič’s advanced, far-sighted and pragmatic thinking, despite the different historical, social, economic and political circumstances of that time.

"Stane Kavčič symbolises a political figure who sees his political power and position as a means to achieve his fundamental aspirations, which he would not abandon, as he strongly believed in them,” concluded the Prime Minister, stressing that, in his time, Stane Kavčič sought better solutions and took decisions that would, first and foremost, benefit the interests of the community rather than his own self-interests.
