In his speech, the former US President particularly highlighted the enhancement of positive global interdependence, adding that it is our task to build positive forces of mutual dependence and reduce negative ones. He went on to say that "increasingly linked with the world, Slovenia is a country which, as far as I am concerned, is an example to the world, which I attempted to support as a president, and, in a different way, continue to do so still today."

After the address, Mr Pahor and Mr Clinton had an extended meeting. The discussion, which lasted almost an hour, was held in a relaxed and highly constructive atmosphere. The two dignitaries exchanged views on critical international issues, particularly focusing on the Western Balkans and the EU. In discussing the Western Balkan region, former President Clinton pinpointed as crucial the establishment of dialogue between the parties formerly involved in the conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and between Albanians and Serbs in Kosovo.

Mr Clinton informed the Prime Minister of his experience in the 1990s as president and warned of the possibility of repetition of the same patterns. The two also exchanged views on the future development of the European Union in light of institutional issues and implementation of the Lisbon Treaty, and highlighted the importance of transatlantic relations. At the conclusion of the discussion, former President Clinton outlined his experience from his rich and long political career and gave Prime Minister Pahor some practical advice on tackling the global economic crisis and on good practices in reducing disparities among people.
