Prime Minister Pahor visits Pomurje

Today, the Slovenian Government began a series of visits to the Slovenian regions with a visit to Pomurje. The visit started with a working meeting in Gornja Radgona, where ministers assessed the status of individual areas and industry sectors in Pomurje. Prime Minister Borut Pahor pointed out that Pomurje has many assets and much to offer. The ministers presented their timetables of visits and the goals that would be pursued during the day.

Mr Pahor first visited the company Elrad International, where he was greeted by the Mayor of Gornja Radgona, Anton Kampuš, and the company's general manager, Izrok Lipnik. Members of the management presented the company and its operation, and took Prime Minister Pahor on a tour of the production halls.
 
Mr Pahor then visited the pharmaceutical company Galex, in Murska Sobota. There he was greeted by the Mayor of Murska Sobota, Anton Štihec, and the general manager of Galex, Miran Jablanovec, along with his senior staff. Mr Jablanovec first presented to Mr Pahor and his delegation, and in particular to State Secretary Dr Andrej Horvat, the history and operations of the company; the discussion that followed focused on the impact of the economic and financial crisis on the pharmaceuticals market.

As part of his visit to Pomurje, Prime Minister Pahor, accompanied by the Minister of Education and Sports, Dr Igor Lukšič, and State Secretary Jožef Školč, also met with representatives of the Roma Association of Slovenia. The delegation was received by the president of the Roma Association of Slovenia, Horvat Muc, with his team. They presented the activities carried out by the association in the region and outlined for Prime Minister Pahor a number of problems faced by the Roma people. Mr Pahor then visited the newly equipped premises of the association, hosting Roma Radio, the ROMIC information centre and the other activities co-ordinated by the Association. Prime Minister Pahor congratulated the Roma Association for the exceptional work it has been doing and said that they are an example for Roma associations around the world.

Before concluding his visit to Pomurje, Mr Pahor, accompanied by the Minister of Work, Family and Social Affairs, Dr Ivan Svetlik, called in at the Radenci Nursing home. There they were greeted by the Mayor of Radenci, Mihael Petek, and the nursing home's general manager, Mateja Hauser. Prime Minister Pahor also met and engaged in conversation the residents of the nursing home.
 
In the follow-up to these visits, Mr Pahor again met with  the ministers, and the mayors, businesspeople, deputies and councillors from Pomurje. After an exchange of views concerning the earlier meetings and a discussion on the current situation in Pomurje, each minister presented priorities to be urgently addressed in this part of Slovenia.
