Prime Minister meets representatives of non-governmental environmental protection organisations

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, today met with representatives of non-governmental organisations in the field of environmental protection and the fight against climate change. The main topics of discussion at the meeting were the Copenhagen Environmental Summit and the positions of non-governmental organisations concerning a global climate agreement, as well as future climate policies and actions in Slovenia.  Environmentalists presented the latest findings and assessments of scientific research relating to climate change and expressed support of an ambitious and legally binding climate agreement in Copenhagen.

In the further discussion, they exchanged opinions on the current situation in the area of environmental policy and recommended future steps to face the climate challenge. Prime Minister Pahor further stressed that the decisions made by large countries, especially China and the USA, are of great significance and display moderate optimism that a relevant agreement will be concluded in Copenhagen.  At the end of the meeting, the Prime Minister reiterated that he would attend the Copenhagen climate summit and thus confirmed the importance of a new climate agreement for the common future.
