Prime Minister Pahor meets Serbian President Boris Tadić

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, last evening held an informal meeting with the President of the Republic of Serbia, Boris Tadić, in Belgrade. In a relaxed atmosphere, they exchanged views on the methods of tackling the economic and financial crisis and on measures to improve the competitiveness of the Slovenian and Serbian economy. To this end, Mr Pahor and Mr Tadić discussed joint economic initiatives and a potential joint venture on certain foreign markets. 

 

During the meeting, Prime Minister Pahor highlighted the problems related to the protection of the Slovenian real property in Serbia and the issue of the archives. The talks, however, particularly focused on the situation in the Western Balkans and the integration of the region in the Euro-Atlantic structures. President Tadić emphasised that Serbia highly appreciates Slovenia's contribution in the area of the EU enlargement and considers with great care its advice regarding Serbia's EU integration efforts. Mr Pahor and Mr Tadić agreed that the situation in the Western Balkans is extremely sensitive and may deteriorate even further. In their opinion, this is nevertheless the right time to stabilize and further consolidate the conditions. At the close of the meeting, Prime Minister Pahor and President Tadić reiterated their opinion that it is of utmost importance for the region that the enlargement process would not stall.
