Prime Minister Pahor attends official opening of the Avče hydroelectric pumped-storage power plant

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, today attended the official opening of the Avče hydroelectric pumped-storage power plant and addressed the participants assembled for this occasion. Mr Pahor described the event as a significant achievement in times of economic crisis and expressed his sincere congratulations to the General Manager of the Soča Power Plants on this success.

Prime Minister Pahor went on to say that "this type of power plant is something special and can be considered as such within the framework of the Slovenian energy policy, including the national energy plan, a commitment undertaken by Slovenia and expected to be implemented in the near future. By way of this plan, we intend to exploit the given conditions which others do not have, and at the same time preserve our nature. Through the renewable energy sources we wish to ensure a higher standard of living to our people, while providing the production sector with conditions for smooth operations. At the close of his address Prime Minister Pahor said that the new hydroelectric pumped-storage power plant is an excellent example of a business idea that in combination with investors, can contribute to the success of the company, the local community and the state.
