Prime Minister Pahor visits Slovenian Railways

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, accompanied by the Minister of Transport, Patrick Vlačič, today visited Slovenian Railways (Slovenske železnice) where they met with the company’s managers. After the meeting, Prime Minister Pahor said that he expected the social partners to coordinate their views on the future structure of the company by his next visit in May. “An audit has been carried out and its conclusions are important for our further work,” emphasised the Prime Minister.

In his words, the conclusions of this special audit are clear, and urgent action is needed since “the company is now on the operating table.  This gives us a chance to save the company but it requires swift, decisive and transparent action supported by the understanding of the political and expert public.”  As far as the future organisation of the company is concerned, Mr Pahor would like to hear the view of a potential consultant for the rehabilitation of Slovenian Railways, the former head of Deutsche Bahn, Mr Hartmut Mehdorn.  “Mr Mehdorn is prepared to listen and raise questions that would enable him and us to agree on a formal meeting soon after a decision on potential joint cooperation is adopted,” added Mr Pahor.
