Prime Minister Pahor and members of Government visit Gorenjska region

Within the series of visits to the Slovenian regions, the Slovenian Government today visited Gorenjska. The visit started with a working meeting in Jesenice where the ministers assessed the situation in individual areas and their relevant business sectors, and compared their experience gathered during the first two regional visits to Pomurje and Bela Krajina. The ministers presented their timetables and the anticipated on-the-spot visits, as well as the goals that would be pursued during the day.

Prime Minister Pahor first visited the family transport company SIGR Bizjak – Transport in Logistika where he was received by the company's director Aleksander Bizjak and his associates. The hosts first made a presentation of the company and its history and then outlined the company's vision and possible improvements in its operations. The visit was concluded by a joint tour of the company and the premises for flower storage.

Prime Minister Pahor then visited one of the leading providers of modern communication solutions, Iskratel d.d., where he was received by the company's general manager, Mr Andrej Polenec. Mr Pahor, the State Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office, Miloš Pavlica, and the State Secretary at the Ministry for Higher Education, Science and Technology, József Györkös, were given an outline of Iskratel as a high-tech company, which covers development, marketing, infrastructure, solutions and services. Mr Polenec said that the company had made it through tough times of the economic crisis without serious blows and then outlined certain objectives related to future operations of this high-tech company with its own trade mark that develops and markets digital communication products all over the world. Prime Minister Pahor then attended a presentation in the company’s demo room.

In Škofja Loka, Mr Pahor visited the company LTH-ulitki d.o.o., a successful producer of hydraulic pressure tools and castings made of aluminium-magnesium alloys for car industry. At the company's premises, the Slovenian Prime Minister was welcomed by the Mayor of Škofja Loka, Igor Draksler, the Vice-Mayor Mirjam Jan Blažič and the General Manager Marko Golob accompanied by members of the management board. During the talks, the Prime Minister was informed about the situation in the company and how the company had mastered the impact of the economic crisis by responding to it with rapid and determinate action. According to Mr Golob, the company LTH Ulitki is among the best examples of the positive effect of anti-crisis measures. Prime Minister Pahor also made a tour of the production facilities.

At the close of his working visit, Mr Pahor visited the leading Slovenian stone-cutting company, Marmor Hotavlje d.d. There, he was received by the director of the management board, Mr Branko Selak, who outlined the company's operations and then Mr Pahor made a tour of the stone-cutting workshop.

In the follow-up to these visits, Mr Pahor again met with the ministerial corps, as well as with mayors, business people, deputies and councillors from Gorenjska. After an exchange of views concerning the earlier meetings and a discussion on the current situation in Gorenjska, the responsible ministers presented their respective priorities related to this Slovenian region and the areas, in which the Government could make improvements. The Slovenian Prime Minister emphasised that Gorenjska has every possibility to make great progress in terms of its level of development and its advantages in comparison to other regions, and added that "the region is doing quite well".
