Prime Minister Pahor attends the 2nd session of the Development Council for Bela Krajina and Kočevsko

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, today attended the 2nd session of the Development Council for the Bela Krajina and Kočevsko regions, in which participants primarily focused on the promotion of balanced regional development. On the visit paid to Kočevsko and Bela Krajina in February 2010, the Government took note of development issues affecting both areas and undertook to find appropriate solutions to them.

In his statement to the press, Prime Minister Pahor said that the meeting achieved a breakthrough that everybody expected, namely the establishment of the Development Council for the regions concerned.  “This is a special institution so far not known in Slovenia,  involving cooperation of state and local authorities in solving the issues”, said Pahor. At today’s meeting, the participants agreed that a thorough reconstruction of the transport infrastructure would provide a basis for all further developments. “We also agreed on what still needs to be done by the next meeting which is to take place before summer holidays in Ljubljana. These measures differ from the measures in the Pomurje region since the structure of issues is slightly different,” emphasised Prime Minister Pahor and concluded by saying that “the establishment of the Development Council has turned out to be the right decision for the region”, which in comparison with other regions lags behind in the development.
