Prime Minister Pahor visits Izola General Hospital

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, together with the Minister of Health, Dorjan Marušič, today visited Izola General Hospital; the management of the Hospital informed him of difficulties encountered in their work. After the meeting, Prime Minister Pahor expressed his expectations that newly-elected acting director, Jani Dernič, would make every effort to remedy losses and pay off old debts.

The Prime Minister explained that his visit was motivated by problems in managing Izola General Hospital. "I would like to see that our visit contributes to putting a stop to big words about doubts within the management; support should be given to the current management until new ambitious and trustworthy management is appointed," stressed Prime minister Pahor. "New management is expected to act with due care and take all necessary measures to eliminate current loss and gradually pay off old debts and to see to it that this institution makes a good product to the satisfaction of patients," added Prime Minister Pahor. Last year, the Hospital's debt decreased from EUR 10 million to EUR 6.5 million due to state aid. Current operations are generating loss, therefore the Prime Minister expects the new manager to act with due care in the next four months of his expected term of office.
