Prime Minister Borut Pahor and Minister of the Economy Darja Radić on possible solutions for company Prevent

At today's meeting, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor and the Minister of the Economy Darja Radić discussed  the possible solutions and proposals for further action following the bankruptcy of companies Prevent Global and Prevent avtomobilski deli.   As the Prime Minister noted after the meeting, the Ministry has clear instructions how to act in such cases. "Our task is to ensure through quick substitutions a correct and even more successful play in the capital and labour markets," stressed Prime Minister Pahor.

In this context, he drew attention to the fact that the Government's wish was not to respond to problems such as Prevent only as a social state trying to mitigate the consequences of such business decisions by owners of capital, but would intervene with a clear entrepreneurial interest. The Minister of the Economy presented in more detail the talks with those interested in entering the companies. Company Boxmark Leather is the best bidder, because "it has already been acting as a strategic partner and is capable of launching the production very quickly and within a short period of time," stressed the Minister. Boxmark plans to employ from 500 to 700 people within six months; if it acquires one of the desired businesses it could employ 250 people in a month’s time.  The Ministry of the Economy prepared a model which defines how the state could help new investors keep the production and jobs. According to this model the state would offer assistance in cooperation with new investors with a package of measures, on condition that quality of jobs was provided and the necessary market demand existed for such products. Darja Radić also explained that the Ministry is currently drafting amendments to the Companies Act in respect of non-payment of contributions and wages. "We will propose several restrictions, in particular for persons who have with their conduct in the past caused damage to economy or even criminal acts related thereto", concluded the Minister.
