Prime Minister Borut Pahor meets representatives of disabled persons’ organisations

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, together with the Minster of Labour, Family and Social Affairs, Dr Ivan Svetlik, today at the working visit met with representatives of disabled persons’ organisations of Slovenia. This has been the second meeting of this kind since Slovenia’s independence and it was also welcomed by representatives of Slovenian disabled persons' organisations, because it demonstrates the interest of the Government to address the issues relating to disability.

At the meeting attended by all the representatives of disabled persons' organisations in Slovenia, it was agreed that the Government would appoint a special working group composed of representatives of line ministries and representatives of disability and humanitarian organisations. The latter will be invited by the Government to identify all outstanding issues from organisational to financial ones; and based on all collected documents, individual solutions would then be jointly developed.

At the meeting they also agreed to meet again in a wider group at consultations on 3 December, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and, until then, they are to review most urgent and necessary issues and consider what can be done to improve the quality of life of disabled persons in Slovenia, even if amendments to the legislation or other acts regulating the life of disabled persons are necessary. “I wish that the quality of life of disabled persons in Slovenia at the end of my term of office is better than at the beginning and that we leave a positive legacy in the area of protection of persons with disabilities,” added Prime Minister Pahor at the end of his statement to the press.
