Prime Minister Pahor at the Conference on proposal for establishing a logistics holding company

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, today attended the Conference on the proposal for establishing a Slovenian logistics holding company, held at Brdo pri Kranju and organised by the Ministry of Transport at the Prime Minister's initiative. In his introduction, Prime Minister Pahor stressed that the idea of creating the logistics holding has been developed by the former head of Deutsche Bahn, Mr Hartmut Mehdorn; according to Prime Minister Pahor, this integration would generate positive synergy which would benefit the Slovenian Railways as well as the Port of Koper, Intereuropa and other companies that might join the holding.

Prime Minister Pahor also noted that failing this, each of these companies would enter the competition game alone and predicted that unless efforts to succeed are joined, the chances of winning are slim. "The idea of a holding company has not been produced in order to rehabilitate the Slovenian Railways, as some have concluded too hastily. It has been generated because its creators looked into the broader picture, that is, into the complete logistics activities, placed them into the European framework and compared competitive advantages and solutions," said Prime Minister Pahor and explained that the rehabilitation of the Slovenian Railways is only one of the upshots of the establishment of a holding.

Prime Minister Pahor further explained that the Government would adopt a decision regarding establishment of a holding company by the end of December this year, as planned by the timetable. If this proves to be necessary, stress testing related to the formation of a holding company will also be carried out. "The Government has not yet adopted any decision and intends to engage in a dialogue with social partners, shareholders and the public before making any decision," said Prime Minister Pahor and continued that due to its significance, this decision will be taken by the National Assembly. At the close of the conference, Prime Minister Pahor also announced that another meeting of representatives of companies, government and professional public covering the same topic will be held, because numerous concerns regarding the establishment of the Slovenian logistics holding company were voiced at today's conference.
