The Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor attended today the European Council meeting in Brussels.  On this occasion, the EU Heads of State and Government discussed and adopted the decisions regarding relations with strategic EU partners, they discussed the activities of the project task force for strengthening economic governance and devoted much of their attention to, as the Prime Minister Pahor put it, "the beginning of a new process, that is putting in place a new EU external service which in Prime Minister’s words constitutes a crucial step in the making of the Union’s common foreign policy."

At the meeting, the EU leaders took note of the work by a special task force to draft proposals for better economic governance of the Union. According to Prime Minister Pahor, the objectives set by the group are rather high, however, "Slovenia can achieve them if it carries out "very disciplined steps in the field of public finance". The report by the task force established in response to the Greek debt crisis and expected to prepare the proposals on how to prevent such things from happening in the future and how to better discipline the public finance in the Union is to be discussed at the October Council meeting by the European Heads of State and Government. Then, concrete proposals used as a basis for the corresponding legislative amendments will be put on the table.
