Prime Minister Borut Pahor attends the opening of the Slovenian Lawyers' Day

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, today attended the official opening of the Slovenian Lawyers’ Day at Bled and addressed the participants. Prime Minister Pahor recalled that two years have passed since the outbreak of the great economic and financial crisis which shook our economy. As the World slowly recovers from the crisis, there is an impression that the professional banking and political circles, on one hand, seem firmly determined »to go right to the end through putting forward a stricter system of control over the financial system, however, on the other hand, I can feel a certain cooling down of this idea when I hear some people say that the crisis is about to end and that the market should be free as freedom is the safeguard of democracy«.

At the moment, we find ourselves at a sensitive point »when the Slovenian economy and society have all the chances to emerge from the crisis«, pointed out Mr Pahor. The Slovenian Government decided to strengthen the foundations of its future activities and to anchor them much deeper than this was the case before the crisis.  What counts now is that with the first signs of economic recovery we should not just sit back in comfort; »it is necessary to firmly proceed with changes knowing that the things keep changing and that they change for the better«. In addition, it is important not to insist on these changes at any price and to give due consideration to them as they are likely to produce long-term effects. We have to resort to consultation and gather all the professional and other knowledge when formulating the solutions. »I believe that you lawyers through your knowledge and mission can do so that faith, optimism and trust in the fact that the society and the individuals feel themselves equal and enjoy equal rights in relation to others and before the law, can prevail«, said Prime Minister Pahor. Confidence of every citizen in the rule of law needs to be strengthened since legal security is another important element requiring so. »It is necessary to strengthen the confidence of citizens in the rule of law, and it seems to me that failing to do so, no recovery may be possible«, concluded Prime Minister Pahor.
