Slovenian Prime Minister's successful first day in New York

Within his visit to New York on the occasion of the UN General Assembly session, the Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor today attended the Investing in Green Conference, where he also addressed the participants. On the margins of the conference, Mr Pahor met the Slovenian citizens living in New York.

The central topic of the conference was green technology as one of the most promising industries with a high added value. In this area there are several opportunities for cooperation between the Slovenian and US corporate sector. In his address, Mr Pahor highlighted Slovenia's advantages as a small but open economy and outlined the Government's plans for structural reforms, which will facilitate the modernisation of Slovenia's economy. Within this context, investments in green industry are of key importance. Mr Pahor went on to say that the development of environment-friendly industries inevitably requires close cooperation between the public and private sectors, as well as foreign investments, where the US can be a key partner.

Later in his visit, the Slovenian Prime Minister had a working meeting with the Executive President of the ACS-Xerox corporation, who expressed his interest in investing in Slovenia. The two exchanged views on potential investments in Slovenia and agreed that further projects would be discussed during the upcoming visit of the ACS-Xerox Executive President to Slovenia.

In his statement to the press, Mr Pahor emphasised the importance of changing the general atmosphere in Slovenia. We must look into the future with optimism, improve the current foundations and build new, stronger ones, as Slovenia is slowly but surely overcoming the crisis. In this context, it is crucial that our country does not start lagging behind. "Slovenia is overly cautious about foreign investments. In my view, we should not be afraid of foreign investors, because Slovenia cannot finance its development alone. If we want to make a development breakthrough, we will also have to accept foreign investors", said Mr Pahor and added that the horizontal adjustments of legislation currently planned are intended to facilitate foreign investments.
