Prime Minister Pahor visits the State Prosecutor's Office

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, and the Minister of Justice, Aleš Zalar, today visited the State Prosecutor’s Office, where they met with the State Prosecutor General Barbara Brezigar and her associates. The main topic of the discussion were the exchange of views and the proposals regarding adoption of the new State Prosecutor Act.  Following the meeting, Prime Minister Pahor said that the State Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of Justice would continue bringing in line their activities until optimum solutions are reached with a view to facilitating more effective prosecution of organized crime.

In his estimation, today's meeting was of relevance »since we all agreed on closer cooperation in regard to drafting legislation and putting in place all normative frameworks required for the successful operation of the Prosecutor's Office«. In addition, several other issues were clarified during the meeting while some other remained without response, however, these can be solved through a dialogue. »Last but not least, I find it important to see simple human confidence exist between us. This is the confidence put in what everyone does to the best of one’s abilities, and in good faith«, pointed out the Prime Minister and observed that the State Prosecutor's Office in taking its decisions cannot be said to be without flaws what holds true of the Government, as well. Regarding the issue of independence of the State Prosecutor's Office, Prime Minister Pahor said that notwithstanding the current or the new system rules, the State Prosecutor’s Office in carrying out its prosecution tasks is expected to be totally free of any political pressure. This is the assurance that Prime Minister Pahor wished to obtain from the State Prosecutor General Barbara Brezigar, who assured him that regarding this issue no problem ever existed between them.
