Prime Minister Pahor attends the Slovenian Day of Civil Justice ceremony

The Slovenian Prime Minister, Borut Pahor, today attended the ceremony on the occasion of the Day of Civil Justice, where the most outstanding persons working in the field of justice were presented prestigious awards. In his address, Mr Pahor particularly highlighted the importance and the role of the judiciary in terms of confidence of people in the rule of law.

"In a time of crisis, people are increasingly sensitive to any acts of injustice. Therefore, the responsibility of all three branches of power is being keenly scrutinized in order to ensure that they meet expectations of people and resolve problems for the common good," said Prime Minister Pahor. The judges are thus expected to administer justice impartially and professionally. Recently, the expectations or pressures imposed on the judiciary have intensified. On the other hand, the judiciary is responding by increasingly meeting the expectations, pointed out Mr Pahor. Among all branches of power, the judiciary is currently the most important one, because a judicial review is independent and impartial. Moreover, Prime Minister Pahor said that Slovenian citizens indeed expect that all persons are equal before the law; and recent cases demonstrate that the judiciary works swiftly, efficiently and impartially. The judiciary has thus preserved a high level of independence and professional reputation.
