Prime Minister Borut Pahor attends " Personality of the Year 2010" event

Prime Minister Borut Pahor attended the "Personality of the Year 2010" announcement made today by the Delo publishing house, awarded to a writer Boris Pahor, a member of the Slovenian minority in Italy. Upon receiving the award he said that the award brought  satisfaction while, at the same time, he was aware that certain active people were nominated who also earned to be rewarded.

At this occasion, Prime Minister Pahor explained that, in his opinion, all the nominees were favourites since everyone proved to be the best in his or her field of work. In this context, he pointed to the emphasis made by some nominees who said they achieved those results 'because of their love for their work'. Prime Minister Pahor described the message of the event as important, showing "that we have people who reach above average and arouse general affection in public for the very reason they dare more, are courageous and believe in what they do." Regarding the Delo publishing house award winner, the writer Boris Pahor, the Prime Minister noted that "in Boris Pahor, we Slovenians see his whole lifetime's opus and not merely that of the latest years."  However, currently it appears that we feel a need to apologize because "we could not understand his ideas and visions at the time when he spoke about them, the minority and national publics were both indifferent to them", added Prime Minister Pahor. In recent years, "by frequently awarding him in Slovenia for his lifetime achievements, we Slovenians actually express an apology to him for neglecting him decades ago. This is another evidence of the fact that very often those who have new visions and fresh ideas are not heard immediately and that at first, their visions must  find their place in public and obtain a kind of general understanding and only after that their bearers are finally recognized", added the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia.
