The Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor today received the EU Commissioner for Internal Market and Services who arrived in Slovenia within the framework of his plan to tour all Member States during the first year of his term of office. So far, Commissioner Barnier has visited fifteen EU Member States. The purpose of his visits is to emphasise the importance of the Single Market Act and to promote the discussion on this document and the implementation of the EU legislation, in particular the Services Directive. Mr Barnier presented the aforementioned Act to Prime Minister Pahor and emphasised that this is a very important document, since it includes as many as 50 proposals for the enhancement of the functioning of the internal market.

During the meeting, Mr Pahor and Mr Barnier also discussed the current economic and financial situation in Europe. Within this context, they particularly touched upon the proposed six-point Franco-German competitiveness pact intended to boost EU competitiveness. In this respect, Prime Minister Pahor highlighted the issue of potential divisions within the EU and the so-called two-speed Europe. Commissioner Barnier pointed out that the countries who wish to accede to this pact are expected to actively participate in drafting the wording and the content of the pact. At the close of the meeting, Mr Pahor informed his guest of the current measures taken by Slovenia and mentioned the establishment of an ad-hoc team dealing with the competitiveness pact.
