Prime Minister Borut Pahor meets President of the National Council Blaž Kavčič

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, today met the President of the National Council, Blaž Kavčič. They discussed the possibilities of closer cooperation between the Government and the National Council and the proposals emerged during the current term of the National Council. The two presidents and their aids agreed that in the context of the present constitutional provisions concerning relationships between national authorities and individual branches of power, it was possible to attain a higher degree of mutual notification and cooperation which would, eventually, result in improved performance of both bodies.

   

In the future Prime Minister Pahor will also notify the National Council of the Government's positions on key decisions regarding on the future of Slovenia, such as Slovenia’s commitments under the Pact for the Euro, financial sustainability measures, and decisions made in the area of foreign policy. The government will also notify the National Council presidency of the proposed key legislation prior to its adoption, particularly that within the Government's programme of priorities until the end of the year. The two presidents felt that the agreed cooperation could significantly contribute to a wider social agreement on important development challenges that Slovenia is facing at present.
